Iran blames “enemies” for nationwide internet shutdown
The Iranian government has blamed “enemies” for widespread internet disruptions in the country, as access has remained heavily restricted for more than 70 days.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on May 12 that public anger over the internet shutdown is “completely justified,” adding that internet access is a right of the people, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iran International.
According to her, the reason for this anger is the enemies who undermine Iran's security.
She added that the introduction of a multi-layered internet system, known as “Internet Pro,” was intended solely to ensure higher-quality access for businesses.
She also promised that public connectivity would be restored once the “threat of war” subsides.
Meanwhile, internet monitoring group NetBlocks said Iran is now on the 74th day of being effectively cut off from the global internet.
“Since 28 February 2026, the world has seen advances in science and technology. Meanwhile, Iran's regime has been arresting and executing technologists,” the group said in a statement.
