Iran investigates alleged misuse of privileged internet access
Iran’s judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei has ordered an investigation into the allocation of so-called “Internet Pro” access, after concerns emerged that it may have been granted to individuals who do not meet official eligibility criteria.
According to Iran International, Mohseni-Ejei stated on April 27 that such high-level internet lines were intended to be provided only to individuals and groups with specific qualifications. However, he said reports now suggest that access has been issued to people whose activities are unrelated to those requirements.
He instructed the prosecutor general and the country’s inspection organisation to review the distribution process for tiered internet access, warning that such practices could become a source of corruption.
The announcement comes amid a prolonged nationwide internet disruption in Iran, which has reportedly continued for 59 consecutive days.
