Iran proposes integration of Russian, Arab electricity grids To boost energy security
Iran's Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi, has proposed the integration of the Russian electricity grid with those of Arab countries via Iran during a meeting of BRICS energy ministers.
The minister highlighted Iran's unique geo-economic position and suggested that this connection would enhance energy security and environmental preservation, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
The Iranian embassy in Russia released a statement following the ministers' meeting, indicating that the proposal specifically involves the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The Iranian Ministry of Energy further noted that the unification of the electricity grids could also lead to a reduction in the investments needed for the production sector. This initiative underscores Iran's strategic role in facilitating regional energy cooperation.
Iran shares both sea and land borders with 15 countries, serving as a crucial conduit in international transit corridors that connect the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf, and regions in the Caucasus and Central Asia, all while maintaining high security and low economic costs.
The meeting of BRICS energy ministers commenced on September 26 as part of the Russian Energy Week International Forum, with participation from officials representing member countries including Russia, Iran, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.
