Iran replaces Ground Forces commander after 7 years
Iran's Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi has been appointed commander of Iran’s Army Ground Forces, replacing Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, who held the position for more than seven years, Iranian media reported.
Jahanshahi previously served as deputy coordinator of the Army Ground Forces, commander of the 77th Thamen al-Aemeh Division, and deputy for assessment at the central Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters.
Although not officially highlighted by the military, the reshuffle reflects a broader pattern of quiet personnel changes within Iran’s armed forces following the June war.
In early October, the Revolutionary Guards named Brigadier General Hojatollah Ghoreishi as its coordinating deputy commander, replacing Mohammadreza Naghdi, who had held the post since 2020. Ghoreishi, a former deputy defence minister, was first publicly referenced with his new title during a visit to Aligoudarz, marking the formal transition.
