Iran’s president to visit New York for UN meeting
The Iranian Presidential Administration has announced that President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to travel to New York in early October, raising speculation about potential diplomatic engagements with the United States.
Mehdi Tabatabai, Deputy Head of the Administration for Communications, said the President of Iran is expected to visit the United Nations on September 23, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
He described the current situation as highly uncertain, noting that “developments both domestically and diplomatically are moving very quickly” and that it is impossible to confirm whether a meeting with US officials will take place.
Tabatabai highlighted that last year, the Iranian President held an unprecedented number of meetings and conferences in the United States compared with the previous 14–15 years.
These included engagements with European, Asian, and neighbouring countries, as well as international organisations, which he said could have been “highly productive” if not for events following the return from New York and an incident leading to Operation True Promise.
He emphasised that Pezeshkian and the 14th government are committed to dialogue and comprehensive peace.
“The principal approach is understanding, dialogue, and communication,” Tabatabai said, adding that the President acts decisively when dealing with force, aggression, or other crises.
