Iranian official says Islamic governance model “saved” Iran
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council, said that Iran’s Islamic system of governance — built around the doctrine of Velayat-e Faqih developed by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini — played a decisive role in preserving the country during major internal and external crises, according to Iranian media.
He recalled the events of 1981, when “radical groups of the monafeqin carried out attacks inside the country while Iraq invaded five Iranian provinces.”
Rezaei stressed that if such wars had taken place in another country, they might have overthrown the political system, adding that what saved Iran was the Islamic Republic, the system of Velayat-e Faqih, and the connection between religion, the people, and politics.
He added that this model of governance enabled Iran to withstand external pressure and internal instability, preserving the country’s unity and sovereignty.
