Israel unveils unmanned submarine

The unmanned submarine BlueWhale, produced by the Israeli state-owned defence concern Aviation Industries (IAI), took part in the NATO and Portuguese Navy exercises Repmus.

The exercise, now in its seventh year, tests the use of unmanned maritime systems in an operational environment, Globes reports.

This year, representatives of navies, defence enterprises and research centres from 30 countries took part in the exercises.

BlueWhale is equipped with radars, sonars, electro-optical and other systems that enable users to monitor what is happening at sea and on the coast, determine the location of sea mines and ships, and perform other tasks.
