Israel's Air Defence Forces have conducted targeted strikes on facilities belonging to the Houthi rebel group on January 10 along Yemen's western coast as well as deeper inside the country.
The strikes against the designated terrorist organization, officially known as the Ansar Allah movement, were carried out in response to numerous previous attacks on Israel, Caliber.Az reports citing the IDF's press release via Telegram.
According to the statement, the "Hizaz" power plant, a critical energy infrastructure for the Houthis was among the targets that were hit by Israeli Air Force fighter jets. Additional strikes were conducted on facilities in the ports of Ras Issa and Hodeidah on Yemen's western coast.
The IDF statement points out, that the targets illustrate how the Houthis are utilizing civilian infrastructure for military purposes, further underscoring the threat they pose. It further emphasized Israel's right and obligation to defend itself.
Houthi rebels have intensified the launching missiles and drones from Yemen in recent weeks, which are striking Israel almost daily. As Reuters reported earlier, some projectiles have managed to penetrate through Israel’s sophisticated aerial defense system. Only recently the Yemeni group targeted Israel's main civil airport, Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv which caused air traffic delays.
