Italian expert: Renovators to restore Imarat complex in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam
The renovators will restore Imarat complex in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam city.
The Imarat complex will be restored as it was before the occupation, Italian international renovator of ancient monuments Alessandro Bianchi told reporters, Report informs.
While commenting on the invitation to Azerbaijan to participate in the restoration process of the Imarat complex, the renovator noted that there is also an ancient cemetery on the territory of the ancient complex.
“During the occupation, the Armenians kept cows and pigs in the complex; it was almost destroyed. When we first came here after the liberation of Aghdam, the Imarat complex was in rather bad condition. We know that its restoration is of great importance for the Azerbaijani people,” he said.
The renovator emphasised that Azerbaijani archaeologists have done a lot of work in the complex.
“The second stage of research is underway. The Panahali Khan’s palace was restored in Soviet period - at the end of the 1970s. We consider archival documents and develop a restoration project based on them. The main goal of the restoration is to restore the Imarat complex as it was before the occupation,” he said.
Bianchi inspected the Imaret complex in Aghdam and informed journalists about the initial state of the ancient burials.
He noted that the graves located here were destroyed by the Armenians during the years of occupation.
“The tombstones were destroyed and removed from the territory of the complex. Currently, research is underway throughout the entire complex,” the renovator added.
