Jordanian airstrike destroys suspected drug warehouse in southern Syria
Jordanian fighter jets have launched an airstrike on a building under construction in Shaab village, Syria’s eastern Suwayda province, believed to be a warehouse for illegal drugs.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the airstrike completely destroyed the structure. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
This marks the second airstrike of its kind by the Jordanian Air Force in 2025, following recent shifts in Syria’s leadership. The strikes are seen as part of Jordan's ongoing efforts to combat the smuggling of narcotics from Syria into its territory. According to SOHR sources, the building belonged to Muhammad Aidu ar-Ramtan, a member of a local clan involved in drug trafficking activities.
The clan has previously been active in southern Syria with the support of Iran and in cooperation with Hezbollah. The report also mentions that Marai al-Ramthan, another clan member, was killed in a previous airstrike carried out by Jordanian forces.
