Kazakh president, Czech PM pledge deeper cooperation during high-level talks
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš have held talks in a small-format meeting focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Welcoming Babiš, Tokayev noted that the Czech leader is widely known not only in the Czech Republic but across Europe as a political figure. He said that Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic have long maintained close and friendly relations, with steadily developing trade ties and growing public interest in closer bilateral engagement, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
The Kazakh president also highlighted the importance of coordination within major international organisations and pointed to active diplomatic engagement in both capitals. He further expressed appreciation for the presence of a high-level Czech business delegation, noting that a business forum held in Astana had been successful and pledging continued efforts to expand multifaceted cooperation.
In response, Babiš thanked the Kazakh side for the warm reception and spoke positively about Kazakhstan’s development. He said it was an honour to visit what he described as an important country in Central Asia and congratulated Kazakhstan on the adoption of its new constitution, suggesting that the experience could be relevant for his own country.
He also recalled earlier professional ties to the region, noting that he had previously worked with Soviet-era offices linked to Shymkent and Zhambyl (now Taraz) after graduating in 1978.
The Czech prime minister highlighted Kazakhstan’s significance in the energy sector, particularly as a major uranium producer, and said cooperation in this field was important given the growing role of nuclear energy. He also expressed admiration for Kazakhstan’s progress in artificial intelligence and said both countries share many common interests, expressing confidence that bilateral relations would continue to develop further.
