Kazakhstan, Czech Republic dismantle illegal personal data trafficking network
A large-scale operation conducted by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the National Security Committee (KNB), supervisory authorities, and the Czech Republic’s police, has dismantled an international network involved in the illegal distribution of personal data belonging to citizens of Kazakhstan and other CIS countries.
The suspects created a closed online platform used to publish and distribute personal information of citizens from Kazakhstan and neighbouring states, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
Investigators said the group operated under a clearly defined hierarchy, with each member assigned a specific role ranging from coordinators of the criminal scheme to operators responsible for receiving and processing orders for the illicit acquisition of personal data.
The network also used so-called “drop accounts” to cash out proceeds obtained through its illegal activities.
