Kazakhstan detains extremists planning to overthrow secular system
Representatives of the Kazakh National Security Committee have detained members of an extremist group who were planning to overthrow the country’s secular system.
“The National Security Committee, in coordination with the Prosecutor General’s Office, neutralised radical religious groups in Astana, Atyrau and Zhezkazgan cities on November 15, 2023, as part of a pre-trial investigation. Twelve of its members suspected of promoting terrorism, as well as creating, leading and participating in the activity of an extremist group were detained. According to investigators, the extremists pursued the goal of overthrowing the secular system in Kazakhstan. They spread extremist ideology and recruited new supporters,” Caliber.Az reports citing the Kazakh media.
