Kazakhstan nears completion of final report on AZAL plane crash
Kazakh authorities will release the final report on the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger jet near Aktau airport within the next few months, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said during a press conference.
Bozumbayev stated that the investigation is nearing completion, with the analysis phase now giving way to the final report drafting, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
He noted that the process requires some time and urged the public to remain patient as the final conclusions are being prepared.
The tragic accident occurred on December 25, 2024, when Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243, an Embraer 190AR, crashed while attempting an emergency landing near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The aircraft had been en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, carrying 67 people—62 passengers and five crew members.
Among those on board were 42 Azerbaijani, 16 Russian, six Kazakh, and three Kyrgyz nationals. The crash claimed the lives of 38 individuals. Of the five crew members, three were killed and two survived. In total, 29 people were rescued from the wreckage.
Preliminary findings suggest that the aircraft experienced physical and technical interference while flying through Russian airspace over Grozny.
