Kazakhstan unveils AI customs robot to guide airport passengers
Kazakhstan's Customs Committee has introduced an interactive artificial intelligence-powered robot, AiRo, at the country's capital airport to help passengers navigate customs regulations and reduce unintentional violations.
The robot was officially presented on June 29 during a press tour organized by the Customs Committee.
According to the committee, many customs violations occur because travelers are unfamiliar with import and export requirements. Passengers are often reluctant to ask customs officers about regulations governing the transportation of items such as mobile phones, foreign currency, jewelry, and medications, increasing the risk of inadvertent breaches.
Developed with the involvement of Customs Committee specialists, AiRo uses AI-based software to provide travelers with quick and accessible information on customs procedures.
The interactive assistant is capable of answering questions related to the import and export of currency, jewelry, medicines, and mobile phones, while also explaining the rules for using the airport's green and red customs corridors.
The Customs Committee stressed that the robot is designed to complement, rather than replace, customs officers. Its primary role is to deliver information efficiently, streamline passenger interactions, and help prevent customs violations by improving public awareness of applicable regulations.
