Kremlin hints at potential Putin-Trump phone call following US-Ukraine talks
The Kremlin has indicated that a phone talk between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could take place following the ongoing US-Ukraine negotiations.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed the matter during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Peskov stated that if necessary, the phone call could be arranged "very quickly."
"We do not rule out the possibility that the topic of a high-level phone talk could arise. If such a need emerges, it will be arranged very quickly. The existing channels for dialogue with the Americans make it possible to do so within a fairly short time frame," said the Kremlin spokesperson.
On March 11, negotiations took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between US and Ukrainian delegations. The talks lasted approximately 9.5 hours. Following the discussions, a joint statement was published on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's website, in which Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. In return, Washington would immediately lift the pause in providing intelligence and resume its assistance to Kyiv.
The sides agreed to finalise a comprehensive agreement on the development of critical mineral resources as soon as possible to strengthen Ukraine's economy. After the talks with the US delegation in Jeddah, Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, stated that the agreement on Ukrainian minerals would be signed when the US deems it appropriate.
Peskov noted earlier that since the inauguration of the US president on January 20, 2025, there has been only one phone call between him and President Putin on February 12. During that call, they discussed the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, bilateral relations, and other topics, agreeing to continue talks and arrange a personal meeting.
