Iran lists energy facilities across Gulf as "legitimate targets" if attacked Photo
Iran's Fars News Agency has published a list of energy infrastructure sites in the Gulf that it said could become "legitimate targets" if Iran is attacked, following remarks by Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei about seeking compensation from adversaries.
According to Fars, an initial assessment identified several energy and petrochemical facilities in the Gulf region that could be considered “legitimate targets” in the event of what it described as an “enemy mistake," Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, Khamenei said Iran would pursue compensation from its enemy for damages.
“We will, in any case, obtain compensation from the enemy. If they refuse, we will take from their assets to the extent we deem appropriate; and if that is not possible, we will destroy an equivalent amount of their property,” he said.
Following the remarks, Iran’s Quds Force, the external operations arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, warned the United States and Israel against targeting the Islamic Republic’s energy infrastructure and ports.
The facilities listed include:
-
Samref Refinery in Saudi Arabia
-
Al Hasheem Gas Facility and Field in the United Arab Emirates
-
Al Jubail Petrochemical (S‑Chem) in Saudi Arabia
-
Q‑Chem Petrochemical and Mesaieed Holding, associated with Chevron, in Qatar
-
Ras Laffan Refinery in the United Arab Emirates

The agency said the list was based on a preliminary investigation into assets it described as accessible in the region.
