EU agencies to strengthen cooperation with Armenia on border, security issues
European agencies Frontex and Europol are set to expand their cooperation with Armenia in areas including border management and law enforcement, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, said during a visit to Yerevan on March 12.
In an interview with Armenpress, Brunner highlighted that Frontex is prepared to assist Armenian border guards, while Europol will work more closely with local law enforcement authorities on combating organised crime, including drug trafficking, money laundering, corruption, and asset recovery.
He added that negotiations on a Working Arrangement with Frontex are in the final stages, which will further enhance collaboration on border management.
Brunner also noted that threats such as organised crime, cybercrime, and hybrid attacks often cross borders, emphasising that a stable and resilient neighbourhood strengthens the security of the European Union. He underlined the EU’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s resilience in addressing these challenges and noted strong potential for deepening practical cooperation across multiple security areas.
