Kremlin keeps tight-lipped on US-Russia talks in Istanbul
The Kremlin has opted not to disclose details of the recent diplomatic talks between Russian and US delegations in Istanbul, stating that such matters fall under the jurisdiction of diplomats.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed the issue during a briefing, emphasizing that any information on the discussions should come from the respective diplomatic departments, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The delegations [in Türkiye] were at the level of diplomatic departments. Information should be expected from them,” Peskov stated.
The high-level meeting, which took place on February 27 and lasted nearly six and a half hours, focused on key issues, including the potential reopening of embassies and consulates in both countries.
Prior to the talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had pointed to systemic diplomatic challenges, attributing them to decisions made by the previous US administration.
While the Kremlin remains reserved about the specifics of the discussions, the US State Department later described the meeting as "constructive," hinting at a possible step forward in US-Russia diplomatic relations.
Whether these talks pave the way for a renewed dialogue between Moscow and Washington remains to be seen.
