Kremlin stresses peace over ceasefire as key goal in Ukraine
Russia does not view a temporary ceasefire as sufficient and considers achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine essential, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told a briefing.
“We repeat once again: Zelenskyy must take responsibility and make the appropriate decision so that we move toward peace, not a ceasefire,” Peskov emphasized, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to pursue a peaceful resolution immediately, warning that “the longer it takes, the higher the price of peace for Kyiv will be.”
Peskov added that “the dynamics on the fronts are not in Kyiv’s favor,” suggesting that military developments currently benefit Russian forces.
Addressing Zelenskyy’s statements about seeking an Easter ceasefire, the Kremlin spokesperson said: “As always, he spoke about being ready for a ceasefire,” but added that Kyiv is in “desperate need of any pause in fighting,” as Russian troops are reportedly advancing “faster in some areas, slower in others, but along the entire front line.”
