Kremlin: Top Russian military figures face heightened danger
High-ranking military leaders in Russia face heightened risks amid ongoing conflicts, the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
Peskov stressed that the Kremlin itself should not dictate how to protect senior military personnel, noting that ensuring their security is the responsibility of specialized law enforcement and security agencies, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
His comments came in response to proposals suggesting that the residences of top military officials be relocated for safety reasons.
The remarks follow a February 6 incident in northwest Moscow, where an unidentified assailant fired multiple shots at Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev in a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway. Alekseyev was promptly hospitalized in a Moscow medical facility.
Authorities have opened a criminal investigation under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 105, covering attempted murder, as well as Part 1 of Article 222 for illegal handling of firearms.
