Kyrgyz security forces arrest Hizb ut-Tahrir activist in anti-extremism operation
Employees of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (GKNB KR) have detained an activist affiliated with the banned religious extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir.
According to the agency, investigative actions were carried out on April 8, 2026, as part of a criminal case targeting key members and leaders of the group, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
The detained individual, identified as Zh.E., is accused of promoting extremist ideology, recruiting new members, distributing propaganda materials, and collecting funds, GKNB officials said.
“The suspect has been placed in a detention center, and efforts are ongoing to clarify the connections and internal structure of the organization,” the agency added.
Hizb ut-Tahrir, a Sunni religious-political organization, is banned in Kyrgyzstan and several other countries due to its extremist activities. Authorities continue to monitor and take action against its network to maintain national security.
