Latvia sends 21 Patria 6x6 armoured carriers to Ukraine
Latvia has transferred 21 Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine, where they will be used by the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal announced.
He wrote on his Telegram channel that Ukraine received all 42 armoured vehicles promised to it in 2025 and added that Latvia also supplied 12 CVR(T) combat reconnaissance vehicles, Caliber.Az reports.
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, November 6, at the Ādaži military base in Riga. Shmyhal thanked Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds, the government and the Latvian people, saying he appreciated “an exceptional level of support.”
He noted that the newly delivered Patria 6x6 carriers would “immediately be put into service with the Special Operations Forces” and emphasised that Ukraine had now received “all 42 armoured vehicles that had been promised for 2025.”
Shmyhal added that Latvia’s transfer of 12 CVR(T) combat reconnaissance vehicles formed part of a previously announced military assistance package.
He also highlighted Latvia’s additional €2.2 million contribution to the PURL initiative and financial backing for the Shelter Coalition, calling its involvement in NATO’s Renovator project — aimed at rebuilding five military rehabilitation centres — “extremely important.”
The minister stressed that “the fight continues, and the aggressor is only increasing pressure,” urging joint action.
He said Ukraine is counting on a reparations mechanism financed by frozen Russian assets, arguing that this is essential “for the security of both Ukraine and other European countries.”
