Lebanon, Syria reaffirm commitment to dialogue, strengthening bilateral relations
Lebanon and Syria have reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and strengthening bilateral relations following high-level contacts between officials in Beirut and Damascus, amid renewed attention on regional stability.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held a telephone conversation with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, during which both sides stressed the importance of cooperation based on mutual interests and respect for sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
According to official statements, Salam welcomed what he described as the constructive stance of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa towards Lebanon, particularly his emphasis on resolving disputes through political dialogue rather than military means.
The discussion followed denials from al-Sharaa of recent media reports suggesting that Damascus was preparing for possible military action in Lebanon.
He reiterated that Lebanon’s internal challenges should be addressed through the strengthening of state institutions, and expressed openness to dialogue with all Lebanese parties, including Hezbollah, as part of efforts to support stability in the country.
