Maldivian mission praises Azerbaijan’s election readiness

30 August 2024 18:07

On August 30, a delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the Maldives' Elections Commission and head of the observation mission Ali Nashaath visited the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) as part of the visit to observe the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for September 1.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani CEC Mazahir Panahov provided the delegation with a detailed briefing on the preparation for the upcoming election process, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

He noted that the election preparation is being conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Azerbaijani Election Code, and all necessary conditions have been established to ensure a comfortable voting experience for voters.

Panahov briefed the delegation on the number of candidates, voters, and polling stations. He also mentioned that special attention will be given to citizens who are unable to vote on election day, with efforts being made to ensure that these individuals can cast their votes conveniently.

Emphasising that after many years, residents of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur will be voting in their ancestral lands, Panahov also reported that there are over 42,000 voters in these regions. Nashaath expressed his pleasure at being in Azerbaijan.

He noted that the preparation for the snap parliamentary elections is being conducted at a high level and that the electoral legislation meets international standards.
