Media: Israeli airstrikes target 320 Syrian military sites In devastating 24-hour offensive

11 December 2024 11:49

Israeli Air Force jets launched a series of attacks across Syria, targeting 320 strategic sites belonging to the Syrian Army over a single day.

The operation, named “Arrow of Bashan” after a historic region in southwestern Syria, reportedly destroyed up to 80% of the military capabilities of Bashar al-Assad's forces, Caliber.Az reports via N12.

The Israeli airstrikes hit a wide range of military assets, including aircraft, surface-to-air missile systems, underground facilities, warships, production plants, and military warehouses.

Additionally, cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles, radar systems, tanks, and surface-to-air missile batteries were also targeted and destroyed. The strikes are said to have dealt a severe blow to the former Syrian president’s military infrastructure.

To recall, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Tuesday that Israel had carried out airstrikes on key military targets across Syria, to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of jihadist groups. "Israel does not intend to interfere in Syria's internal affairs," Netanyahu said but stressed that the Israeli Air Force had been authorized to bomb strategic Syrian military assets, mirroring actions from World War II.

"It’s similar to what the Royal Air Force did when it bombed the Vichy regime’s fleet to prevent it from falling into Nazi hands," he noted.

Military sources revealed that hundreds of targets were struck in an operation kept under strict secrecy, including aircraft, missile systems, and weapons storage sites. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) deployed 350 combat aircraft, targeting assets from Damascus to Tartus, and naval forces struck Syrian vessels off the coast.

"The operation was a direct response to rapidly evolving developments," military officials said, pointing to increased surveillance of rebel activity.

Netanyahu outlined conditions for potential relations with a future Syrian regime, warning that any Iranian presence or weapon transfers to Hezbollah would trigger a harsh response. "If this regime allows Iran to re-establish itself in Syria, or transfers weapons to Hezbollah, we will respond with force," he declared.

In a related development, the IDF has reinforced positions along the buffer zone border to safeguard Israeli civilians and prevent military assets from falling into unauthorized hands. Meanwhile, military sources revealed that Iran’s influence in Syria has waned, reducing its operational capabilities in the region.
