Media: Over 100 ships wait near Strait of Hormuz as US-Iran talks progress
More than 100 tankers and cargo ships are currently anchored near the Strait of Hormuz amid reports of a planned June 19 signing of an agreement to end the conflict between the US and Iran, which is expected to reopen maritime traffic through the waterway, according to TASS.
As of 14:30 Baku time, around 100 commercial vessels were anchored near the ports of Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman in the northern United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf. In the Gulf of Oman, about 40 vessels have gathered at anchorage areas near Fujairah and Khor Fakkan.
About 25% of global oil trade and nearly 20% of liquefied natural gas flows pass through the Strait of Hormuz. On June 14, the United States and Iran announced they had agreed on a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict. The signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19.
