Media: US airstrikes on detention facility in Yemen kill dozens of African migrants
At dawn on April 28, US warplanes reportedly conducted two airstrikes on a detention facility housing African migrants in Yemen’s northern Sa'adah Governorate, resulting in dozens of casualties.
The broadcaster’s correspondent in Sa'adah said the facility, located in the city, sustained heavy damage, with dozens of casualties reported among those held inside, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Masirah.
Civil defence teams were seen battling fires at the site while rescue operations continued. Ambulances were also working to transport the wounded to hospitals, which are reportedly overwhelmed.
Officials described the attack as a "horrific war crime," accusing the United States of committing serious violations against civilians.
The airstrikes were part of a broader overnight aerial campaign against Sa'adah, which included three raids on Kitaf District and two others on the outskirts of the city.
In a separate incident within the past 12 hours, US warplanes also allegedly struck residential homes in the Thaqban area of Bani Al-Harith district, north of the capital, Sana'a. Eight civilians were reported killed, with several others injured, including women and children.
The United States has said its recent military operations in Yemen are intended to deter attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. However, local media and humanitarian groups have reported that many of the strikes have impacted civilian areas, leading to rising casualties among non-combatants.
