Media: US disappointed with Israel's actions in Syria
The Trump administration has expressed concern that repeated Israeli strikes on Syrian territory could destabilise the country and undermine hopes for a security agreement between Israel and Syria.
This issue is expected to be a key topic during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with President Trump at the White House in late December, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israel's Channel 12.
Earlier, Trump used social media to caution Israel against “interfering” in Syrian affairs. Channel 12 noted that the post reflected the same warning U.S. officials had conveyed to Israel in recent days.
The U.S. response followed several days after Israeli forces came under fire during an operation in Syria. Syrian sources reported that the clash resulted in 13 fatalities.
An American official told the channel, “Syria does not want problems with Israel; this is not like Lebanon.”
He also warned that Netanyahu needs to change course before he “turns the new Syrian regime into an enemy of Israel.”
One U.S. official described Netanyahu’s actions as “madness. Constant bombings of everything and everyone,” cautioning that such an approach “could derail what Trump is trying to achieve.”
