Mexico calls for cities that care for all residents, including children, elderly
Mexico calls for cities that care for every resident, including children and the elderly, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada has stated during the joint opening session of assemblies at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
She urged participants to unite around this goal, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Let us build our cities to meet even the smallest needs of babies, children, women, the elderly — in short, everyone,” she noted.
According to her, situated on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Baku provides a strategic setting for discussions on urban planning.
She said the next World Urban Forum will be hosted by Mexico in 2028, highlighting the country’s rich historical heritage.
“In this sense, our people are a valuable source of ideas for this topic,” she stressed.
Brugada emphasised that more than 100 countries are represented at WUF13, where delegates are addressing what she described as one of the most fundamental issues facing humanity’s future.
“Our message is to create a movement, to address issues from local perspectives, to tackle urgent matters requiring pragmatic solutions for large cities, and to explore mechanisms that influence the global economy. Today, social inequality is one of the most pressing problems in the world. We need radical change on this issue,” she explained.
The mayor also expressed gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for its organisation of the event and hospitality.
