Minister: Uzbekistan faces daily gas shortage of six million cubic metres
Uzbekistan is experiencing a daily natural gas shortage of six million cubic metres following a technological accident in a neighbouring country, the country’s Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov said during a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) on December 11.
According to Anhor.uz, the shortage represents approximately 3.9% of Uzbekistan’s total daily consumption, which is around 154 million cubic meters. Authorities are prioritising gas supplies to households, social and strategic facilities, and thermal power plants, while temporarily disconnecting seasonal consumers.
Mirzamakhmudov confirmed that Uzbekistan is working closely with neighbouring countries to resolve the issue and restore normal gas supplies. However, he did not specify which country was responsible for the disruption.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that the technical malfunction in a neighbouring state’s gas network had led to reduced natural gas supplies, prompting temporary restrictions on the operation of methane refuelling stations in Uzbekistan.
