Ministry: 4.3-magnitude quake rocks Kurdistan Region
A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook the Kurdistan Region on February 25 morning with an epicentre between Erbil and Mosul.
Some people reported feeling a second tremor as well, according to Kurdistan Region’s communications ministry, RUDAW reports.
“The depth of the quake was five kilometres and was felt in most of Kurdistan Region’s cities,” the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Transportation and Communications said in a statement.
There are no reports of injuries or damage.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre also reported the quake, saying its epicentre was Mosul city and it occurred at 2:25 (GMT+3).
Many people living near the border of Erbil and Nineveh provinces confirmed to Rudaw that they felt two quakes. In videos submitted to Rudaw, some people fired guns into the air to alert others of the tremor.
After two large earthquakes earlier this month in southeastern Türkiye killed over 50,000 people in Türkiye and Syria, the area has been rocked by frequent aftershocks and new earthquakes, sparking alarm among people who are afraid to return to their homes and are living in the streets or in tents.
