Iranian official casts doubt on restoring security in Strait of Hormuz
Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has expressed skepticism over prospects for restoring security in the Strait of Hormuz, commenting on remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Larijani shared his reaction in a post on the social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

“It is hardly possible to expect security in the Strait of Hormuz amid the war unleashed in the region by the United States and Israel, especially if such initiatives come from parties that were not far from supporting this war and contributed to its escalation,” Larijani wrote.
To note, President Macron has said France and its allies are preparing a “purely defensive” mission to escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz once the “most intense phase” of the US-Israeli war on Iran ends.
Speaking in Cyprus, Macron said the “purely escort mission” must be prepared by both European and non-European countries.
Its purpose “is to enable, as soon as possible after the most intense phase of the conflict has ended, the escort of container ships and tankers to gradually reopen the Strait of Hormuz”, the French president said, without providing further details.
