Moscow court orders arrest of suspect in filmmaker Sergey Politik’s murder
Moscow’s Perovsky District Court has issued a two-month pre-trial detention order in absentia for Armen Sargsyan, who stands accused of murdering director and cinematographer Sergey Politik.
Sargsyan is currently wanted by authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The case was initially investigated under charges of causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death. According to Moscow’s prosecutor’s office, the October 18 incident occurred during a confrontation in which Sargsyan allegedly stabbed Politik before fleeing the scene. Politik was hospitalised but later died from his injuries.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has confirmed that the suspect is a foreign national. Sargsyan was formally charged on October 21. Vladimir Politik, the victim’s brother, has suggested that the accused may have been acting as a drug courier, according to media reports.
On October 21, 56-year-old Politik reportedly confronted a young man behaving suspiciously near the entrance of his building on Stalevarov Street.
The exchange quickly escalated, and the assailant allegedly attacked Politik with a knife, inflicting a fatal wound to his chest. The filmmaker was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Sergey Politik was a well-known cinematographer and director of photography, best known for his work on the popular television series Closed School (Zakrytaya Shkola) and the films The Shield of Minerva.
