Moscow endorses Armenia–Türkiye reconciliation as cornerstone of regional stability
Russia has reiterated its firm support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Türkiye, emphasizing that reconciliation between the two nations is essential for long-term peace and sustainable development in the South Caucasus.
Speaking at a press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the latest meeting between the Armenian and Turkish special envoys for normalization, which took place in Yerevan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Zakharova recalled that the inaugural round of Armenian–Turkish talks was hosted by Moscow in January 2022, underlining Russia’s early and ongoing engagement in the dialogue process.
“We remain ready to continue supporting these efforts, including within the framework of the 3+3 regional cooperation format,” Zakharova said, referring to the diplomatic platform that includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Türkiye. “We hope that, in shaping agreements between Ankara and Yerevan, the realities on the ground and the interests of the South Caucasus neighbors will be taken into account.”
The Russian diplomat also cautioned against foreign interference in the delicate normalization process, stating that it is crucial to “eliminate destructive external influences” that could derail progress.
