Mother of Armenian soldier claims her son was beaten to madness Investigative report

18 July 2023 12:19

Another blatant case of abuse of a soldier in the Armenian army was told to the media by the soldier's mother.

Journalist Gayane Zargarian shared this information and the relevant video on her Youtube channel.

Caliber.Az presents a translation of the video.

According to the mother of the Armenian serviceman, her son was admitted to a military hospital.

"I raised two sons, one of whom served in a military unit of the Armenian Ministry of Defence, which is stationed in Meghri, and the younger one was drafted into the army on July 5 this year. Ten days after that I received information that my son was transferred to a military hospital in Yerevan.

I immediately went to the hospital. When I saw my son, I did not recognise him, he was in an unrecognisable condition and very scared. As a mother, I ask you to take this matter very seriously. He was still in quarantine, he had served only 5 days, and an officer named Sarkis Muradyan beat him, hit him on his stomach, on his face. My son had been serving for only a few days, he did not know any regulations or rules. The officer berated him, calling him an immoral creature. My son responded to the officer, after that he was beaten, and then they sent my son to the hospital with a broken arm.

I am a single mother, raised two sons, gave them to the army to serve the motherland, and as a result, I come and see that my son is in a psychiatric ward, in a stressful state. I came to Yerevan from Noyemberyan, and the hospital told me that my son needed rest, that he was talking to himself, that he might have problems, and that he was very aggressive. The nurse told me that. But I want to say that my son recently passed a medical examination at the military enlistment office, and he was fine, he was healthy.

No one from the military unit contacted me, they didn't even let me know that my son was transferred to the hospital," the mother of the Armenian soldier told the journalist.
