NATO launches massive Baltops 2025 naval drills in Baltic Sea
NATO has officially kicked off its annual Baltops 2025 naval exercises in the Baltic Sea, involving around 50 different types of vessels.
The US Sixth Fleet, headquartered in Southern Europe, is sending its flagship command ship, USS Mount Whitney, to participate, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Germany is represented by the frigate FGS Bayern, while the United Kingdom is contributing a significant group of P2000 patrol vessels. Polish naval forces have also arrived in Rostock, with the missile frigate ORP Gen. T. Kosciuszko, corvette ORP Kaszub from the 3rd Flotilla in Gdynia, and two minesweepers—ORP Mamry and ORP Naklo from the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla—joining allied operations.
Over the course of two weeks, participating forces will operate across a broad area of the southern Baltic Sea, stretching from the Danish Straits and Jutland Peninsula to the Gulf of Gdańsk. The exercises will include live artillery firing drills on naval ranges. Military aviation assets will also play a key role in Baltops 2025, supporting the multinational maritime operations.
