NATO leaders to discuss important decisions at Vilnius summit
The leaders of the NATO countries at the summit in Vilnius will make important decisions on many issues, including Ukraine.
The summit will be held July 11-12 in the capital of Lithuania, 300 km from the Russian border, Anadolu reports.
The summit will be attended by the heads of state and government of 31 NATO members, representatives of the candidate country for joining the Alliance – Sweden, as well as delegations from Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.
The participation of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected.
One of the main topics on the agenda of the NATO summit will be Ukraine. The summit participants will discuss issues of building up support for Kyiv, modernizing Soviet-designed weapons, creating a NATO-Ukraine Council, and guaranteeing the country’s security.
It is expected that the summit of the NATO countries will confirm the course towards the inclusion of Ukraine in NATO, as it was 15 years ago in Bucharest. At the same time, a clear timetable for the admission of Kyiv to the military-political bloc will not be announced.
Many NATO countries, including the United States, believe that Ukraine will not be able to join the Alliance until the end of the bloody confrontation with Russia.
The leaders will also share their views on increasing defense spending. In this regard, the approval of the NATO Action Plan for the production of defense products is expected in Vilnius.
