NATO to deploy AI system to track Russian troop movements
NATO is set to introduce the Maven Smart System (MSS), an artificial intelligence platform developed by Palantir Technologies, to monitor activity along the Alliance’s eastern flank, The Times reports.
Maven, already integrated into the British Ministry of Defence, combines data from NATO allies to identify weaknesses in the alliance’s defence strategies and guide future troop deployments.
According to the report, MSS integrates information from multiple intelligence sources, including satellites, drones, and radar systems, before processing and analysing the data.
The new system will map NATO’s eastern flank positions, provide detailed tracking of Russian troop movements, warn officials of developments from Moscow requiring an allied response, and help identify potential targets for strikes.
There is hope that the system, seen as a major enhancement to NATO’s capabilities, would provide the allies with a strategic advantage over Russia if Moscow launches an attack in the coming years.
