Netherlands refuses entry to Russian ship at Emshaven port
Russian fishermen are encountering increasing challenges in delivering their products to European Union ports. In May, Dutch authorities began denying Russian vessels entry to the port of Emshaven, causing significant disruptions for Russia's fishing fleet.
Previously, vessels transporting fish had been exempt from EU restrictions, but the situation has recently shifted, RBC notes.
On May 16, 2023, a Russian vessel owned by Arctic Shipping was denied entry to Emshaven. This incident marked the first indication that Russian fishing vessels might now face new hurdles in accessing European markets.
The Association of Fishing Fleet Shipowners (ASRF) reported that the vessel had complied with all necessary documentation, including the required certificates and forms, submitted in accordance with EU regulations. Despite this, entry was refused.
A possible reason for the refusal could be linked to a local media report suggesting that Russian fishing vessels might be involved in espionage activities.
