New heavyweight "Provod" drone enters service with Russian forces
A new heavy fibre-optic FPV drone, “Provod,” has begun entering Russian troops in large numbers, Andrey Ivanov, the chief designer of the Ovod family of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has announced.
According to Ivanov, "Provod" is currently the most widely supplied drone in the Russian army, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russia's RIA Novosti.
“It is called ‘Provod,’ ‘Ovod-Pro,’ or ‘Provod’… Deliveries are now being made, including to Ministry of Defense warehouses, and the Ministry of Defense then distributes them among units,” the designer explained.
He added that a large number of reports are already coming in from the field, noting the drone’s successful combat use.
RIA Novosti writes that the main difference between fiber-optic drones is the signal’s resistance to radio interference and electronic warfare. However, the flight range of such drones is limited by the cable length - about 20-40 km.
