Official: Slovakia ready to host negotiations on Ukraine
Deputy Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Tibor Gašpar has announced that Slovakia is ready to serve as a venue for negotiations on the Ukrainian issue.
Gašpar expressed Slovakia's willingness to host talks on Ukraine and emphasised that discussions could take place at lower levels, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Whether high-ranking officials will meet in Slovakia is an open question. Bratislava is a place where some negotiations could be held. However, where leaders such as President of Russia Vladimir Putin or elected US President Donald Trump will ultimately go is something that the future will reveal," he added.
Press Secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov previously stated that a freeze of the conflict along the frontline is not an acceptable option for Russia. In December 2024, President Putin emphasised that the country needs a lasting peace, secured by guarantees of safety for its citizens.
In June 2024, President Putin presented initiatives aimed at a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian leader specified that Kyiv must abandon its intentions to join NATO, ensure demilitarization and denazification, and adopt a neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status. Putin also stressed the importance of lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation.
