One dead, one injured as Russian drones hit railway facilities in Sumy PHOTO
A Russian overnight drone attack on railway infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy region killed a railway worker and seriously injured another, regional authorities and railway officials said on June 12.
According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Russia launched a mass strike using Shahed drones against civilian infrastructure in the Shostka community. The attack targeted railway facilities, including stations, train terminals, electrical signalling posts and substations.
A 44-year-old woman was killed in the strike, while a 33-year-old woman sustained severe injuries and is receiving medical treatment. Authorities said a three-storey non-residential building was heavily damaged, adding that the full extent of the destruction is still being assessed.

Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, head of Ukrzaliznytsia, said the victim was an operator at one of the targeted railway stations.
“Killer Russian strikes on the railway infrastructure of the Sumy region continued this night. Russia directed drones at stations, train stations, electrical signalling posts, substations,” he wrote.
He added that safety precautions had been in place at the facility, including a mobile shelter, and that a monitoring group had issued advance warnings about the incoming threat.
“Unfortunately, I must report the worst: we have a loss — an operator at one of the stations has been killed,” Pertsovskyi said.
He also confirmed that a station duty officer was injured during the attack. The injured woman has undergone surgery and her life is not in danger.
