Orbán: “Kyiv is riding the horse backwards”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s stance on Ukraine’s European Union membership, saying figuratively that the Ukrainian leader is “riding the horse backwards.”
Orbán’s comments came in response to Zelensky’s demand that any potential peace agreement include a specific date for Ukraine’s accession to the EU. According to the Ukrainian president, the absence of such guarantees could allow Russia to influence the integration process through “representatives in Europe.”
“You are riding the horse backwards,” the Hungarian government wrote on its social media accounts, emphasising that, in Orbán’s view, Kyiv is on the wrong path.
The Hungarian prime minister also noted that joining the European Union is a process based solely on the achievements and merits of the candidate country.
