Over 400 injured, 38 killed in US strikes on Iran, Health Ministry says
The death toll from renewed U.S. strikes on Iran this month has risen to 38, while more than 400 people have been injured, Iran's Health Ministry revealed, as Washington continued its latest wave of military operations against Iranian targets.
Eight people were killed and 20 others wounded in overnight U.S. attacks on infrastructure in several Iranian provinces. The strikes took place on July 16-17, targeting infrastructure in different parts of the country.
Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Iranian Health Ministry's Public Relations and Information Centre, said in a post on X that, as of 6:30 a.m. on July 17, the number of people killed in the renewed U.S. strikes this month had reached 38, while the number of injured had surpassed 400.
According to Kermanpour, the fatalities include three women and one person under the age of 18. Among the injured are 22 women and nine minors. He added that 47 people remain hospitalized and continue to receive medical treatment.
On July 16, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had completed a new wave of offensive strikes against Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of U.S. military operations targeting Iranian military assets.
Regional tensions have remained high since February, when the United States and Israel launched a joint military campaign against Iran. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
Although Iran and the United States signed a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding last month aimed at ending the conflict and laying the groundwork for a lasting peace agreement, tensions have escalated again in recent days, with both sides exchanging attacks amid renewed friction over the Strait of Hormuz.
