Over 50 people injured in explosion during prayers at Jakarta Mosque
Dozens of people were injured and taken to hospital after an explosion occurred during Friday prayers on November 7 at a mosque located inside a school complex in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, police said.
Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri told a televised press conference that authorities were investigating the cause of the blast, which took place at a mosque in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta, Caliber.Az reports, citing Reuters.
A total of 54 people were admitted to nearby hospitals, Suheri said, noting that the injuries ranged from minor to serious, with several victims suffering burns.
Television footage from KompasTV and MetroTV showed police cordoning off the school grounds, while ambulances were stationed nearby. Images of the mosque indicated that there was no significant structural damage.
