Over 9,000 displaced residents from Russia's Kursk sheltered in temporary camps
More than 9,500 residents, who fled their homes in the border areas of Russia's Kursk Region, are currently housed in temporary shelters, according to a spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
"To date, 177 temporary shelters are already operating in 14 regions of the country. Nearly 9,500 people, including more than 2,500 children, are staying in them," Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry's spokesman.
The ministry further noted that over 470 temporary shelters have been prepared across Russia, with the capacity to accommodate up to 36,000 people displaced from Kursk Region.
Background
The Kursk Region, located near Russia’s western border with Ukraine, has been increasingly affected by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The region has experienced a rise in cross-border incidents, leading to the displacement of thousands of residents. The Russian government has responded by establishing a network of temporary shelters to provide refuge for those fleeing the conflict zone.
