Pakistan shaken by early-morning 5.6 earthquake near Khuzdar
A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck 86 kilometres northeast of Khuzdar in Balochistan on February 13, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cited by local media.
The PMD’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the quake occurred at 6:30 am at a depth of 13 kilometres. Earlier the same morning, at 5:52 am, a separate earthquake measuring 3.8 in magnitude hit 75 kilometres southeast of Khuzdar at a depth of 33 kilometres.
Tremors from the stronger quake were felt across several districts in Sindh, including Sukkur, Qambar, Shahdadkot and Dadu, as reported by APP. In Balochistan, residents of Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad and Nasirabad also experienced shaking.
The latest seismic activity follows a 5.8-magnitude earthquake last month that affected parts of Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Peshawar and nearby areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In January, another quake measuring 5.8 was felt in Islamabad and parts of KP. In October 2025, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Quetta.
Pakistan is situated at the convergence of three major tectonic plates — the Arabian, Eurasian and Indian plates — which form five seismic zones beneath the country. The presence of multiple fault lines makes tectonic activity a recurring phenomenon in the region.
