Pakistani leader thanks Trump for extending Iran ceasefire, backs peace talks
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on April 22 thanked US President Donald Trump for agreeing to extend the ceasefire with Iran, saying the decision would allow diplomatic efforts to continue toward resolving the conflict.
In a post published on the social media platform X and cited by Caliber.Az, Sharif expressed gratitude both personally and on behalf of Pakistan’s military leadership.
“On my personal behalf and on behalf of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I sincerely thank President Trump for graciously accepting our request to extend the ceasefire to allow ongoing diplomatic efforts to take their course,” Sharif wrote.
He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to facilitating a negotiated resolution.
“With the trust and confidence reposed in, Pakistan shall continue its earnest efforts for negotiated settlement of conflict,” he added.
Sharif also expressed hope that the ceasefire would hold and lead to a broader agreement between the parties.
“I sincerely hope that both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and be able to conclude a comprehensive ‘Peace Deal’ during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict,” he said.
