Pakistani PM lauds US-brokered Gaza ceasefire as breakthrough for regional stability
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif hailed the newly reached Gaza agreement as a historic opportunity to secure lasting peace across the Middle East.
As reported by Caliber.Az, Sharif shared his reaction on the social platform X, calling the deal a landmark step toward regional stability. He praised the leadership of US President Donald Trump, saying it demonstrated Trump’s “unwavering commitment to world peace.”
Sharif also expressed gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye for their tireless mediation efforts that helped make the agreement possible.
“We will continue to work with partners, friends, and the leaders of brotherly nations to ensure that peace, security, and dignity for the Palestinian people are established in accordance with their wishes and UN resolutions,” the Pakistani leader wrote.
The remarks came after Israel and Hamas reached the first stage of a US-brokered ceasefire framework on October 8. The agreement envisions the prompt release of all hostages held in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces to an agreed line, and the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners.
US President Donald Trump said the hostages are expected to be released on October 13, noting that the announcement of the accord did not yet address some outstanding issues, including the disarmament of Hamas and the future governance of Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the deal as both a “diplomatic success and a national and moral victory” for Israel, while Hamas extended thanks to Trump and the mediators — Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye — for their roles in achieving the breakthrough.
The news prompted celebrations among families of Israeli hostages and those previously freed from Gaza, while Palestinians in the enclave welcomed the development, cautiously hoping it would mark the end of the war.
